Why this Blog was Created

I love family history, but the blog was created specifically to share family stories of ancestors. I know there are many stories and experiences that need to be shared so we can get better aquainted with our heritage. What a blessing to have tools such as this at our disposal.

I’ve enjoyed your Palmer histories. Thanks for posting them.

I like typing up histories as well. I have a few on my site, if you’re interested.

    Thanks again.

I came to this site as the result of common family history and friendships. After a quick look, I’m fascinated by the history found in many of these stories.

My family Smith family are among those who came from Egin Bench / Parker, Idaho, to Alberta. We have historic ties to the Oviatt, Palmer, and Grover families.

There is a wealth of information here that I did not know about. I now have to compare what I have and what is posted here. I am in New York. My imediate family spelled their name Ovitt back several generations. I have been doing research on the Ovitt family for about 30 years now. I am 70 years old and retired. I have tied my family back to Thomas born in 1602. I am a true genealogist and love putting the peices together. I attend many seminars as time allows.

My dad is Orrin Valdemar Jorgensen. His mother is Beulah Murray Palmer. Her dad was Luther Orrin Palmer. His dad was Luther Clark Palmer. His dad was Luther Moses Palmer. His parents were Abraham Whitney and Patience Delila Pierce Palmer. It was a joy to me to find their own words and stories here.

I have speculated that The name Orrin came to be a family name because of Abraham’s association with Orrin Porter Rockwell in the early days of the church, particularly when Abraham was a bodyguard to the prophet Joseph Smith. Can anyone authenticate that speculation?

Thank you so much! My grandmother was Melva C. Lenz and she died 5 months before I was born. I like to think that we had spent time together before I finally joined my family on earth. My mom, Barbara, tells me that I remind her of her mom. I’m glad to have been able to read this and get to know her better as well as how to see how we are alike. I knew some of these stories already, just not with this detail. Thank you for posting it.
